Clinical Use

The 32 Parmly Alveolar Forceps, serrated, is a universal instrument for extracting upper premolars, molars and canines. It is known for working two ways: it extracts the tooth, and it can also be used to break and trim the alveolar process after the extraction.

That second use helps with alveoloplasty, where sharp or uneven bone edges are smoothed before the soft tissue is closed.

Design and Handling

The serrated beaks hold the tooth firmly without slipping, so the force you apply goes into luxating the tooth instead of being lost at the grip. Because one forceps covers several tooth types, it reduces the number of instruments needed on a general extraction tray.

After extraction, inspect the socket and use the beaks to remove loose bone fragments and trim any sharp edges.

Technique and Care

Choose forceps whose beaks match the root or tooth you are removing, and seat both beaks fully before you apply force. Use controlled rocking and rotation rather than a sudden pull, and support the jaw with your other hand to protect the temporomandibular joint.

Forceps are for gripping and luxating, not for levering. After each case, open the hinge, flush out debris and check that the hinge moves freely before sterilizing. A drop of instrument lubricant on the hinge keeps the action smooth.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
