Product overview & features
Product detailsThe Gardner bone chisel 6 shares the mono-bevel single-ended shaving function of the Gardner series but uses a diamond wedge tip built for dense, resistant cortical bone rather than the flat, accessible surfaces the #1 and #2 are suited to. The wider bevel faces of the diamond wedge geometry distribute push-stroke force across a broader contact area than the pointed pyramid tip on the #5, creating a wedging action that drives through denser bone rather than concentrating force to a single point.
At 4 mm blade width, the #6 matches the #2 flat-tip instrument in size but is reserved for sites where bone density or resistance makes flat-tip shaving inefficient. The round platform at the handle-shank junction is designed to accept mallet strikes cleanly, letting the clinician combine controlled mallet tapping with the manual push stroke to work through dense cortical bone without excessive hand pressure.
Clinically, the #6 is selected over the #2 flat tip and the #5 pyramid tip when the bone surface is both dense and resistant, such as areas of sclerotic bone or thick cortical plates, where a broader wedge contact clears bone more efficiently than a point-loaded tip. Single-ended, medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, autoclavable.
Product Features
- 6 Gardner Bone Chisel 4 mm diamond wedge-tip mono-bevel wedges through dense, resistant cortical bone
- Broader wedge bevel faces distribute push-stroke force across a wider contact than the pointed pyramid #5
- Mallet-compatible round platform handle for combined hand pressure and mallet-assisted bone removal
- Single-ended design for directional control in ridge and implant site preparation
- 4 mm blade width matches the #2 flat tip but is reserved for denser, more resistant bone
- Suited to sclerotic bone and thick cortical plates where a point-loaded tip is inefficient
- Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
6 Gardner vs 5 Gardner: Both address dense or irregular bone beyond what a flat tip can shave, but the #6's diamond wedge tip distributes force across a broader contact for wedging through resistant bone, while the #5's pyramid tip concentrates force to a point for precise removal of raised, irregular high points.
