Clinical Use

The 76S Upper Roots Forceps, serrated, is designed for the atraumatic removal of maxillary roots and fragments. It is used where the crown has broken off or been lost to decay and the remaining root needs to be gripped directly and removed with as little trauma to the socket as possible.

Design and Handling

The European style handle gives a comfortable grip and good control, which helps in delicate extractions. The serrated beaks bite into the root surface to hold it securely while you apply gentle rotation and buccal pressure.

For fractured roots, make sure the beaks seat well below the margin of the bone where the anatomy allows, then work the root loose with slow, controlled movements.

Technique and Care

Choose forceps whose beaks match the root or tooth you are removing, and seat both beaks fully before you apply force. Use controlled rocking and rotation rather than a sudden pull, and support the jaw with your other hand to protect the temporomandibular joint.

Forceps are for gripping and luxating, not for levering. After each case, open the hinge, flush out debris and check that the hinge moves freely before sterilizing. A drop of instrument lubricant on the hinge keeps the action smooth.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
