Clinical Use

The Adhesive Removing Pliers are used at the finishing appointment to remove leftover bonding resin. A plastic pad protects the tooth while the blade lifts the adhesive away.

Design and Handling

After brackets are debonded, composite remains on the enamel. These pliers close the blade against the plastic pad, so the blade removes resin while the pad takes the opposing force instead of the enamel surface.

Work around the tooth in small bites, and use the pliers only on adhesive. A final polishing step will smooth any residue.

Care and Handling

Orthodontic pliers should be used only for the job they are made for. Check that the tips meet evenly before each use, and do not use these pliers to cut wire, which will damage the working surfaces. Keep the box joint free of resin and cement, and put a drop of instrument lubricant on it before sterilization so the pliers keep opening and closing smoothly.

Run a cloth or brush over serrations and grooves during cleaning, because debris trapped there reduces grip.

Pliers stored loose in a drawer can knock their tips out of alignment. Keep them in a cassette or tray so the beaks are protected between uses and the instrument is ready when the next patient sits down.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
