Clinical Use

The Angled Apical Plugger, 0.5mm/0.6mm, is a double-ended plugger for apical compaction in posterior teeth. The slight bend gives better access to molars than straight versions.

Design and Handling

The 0.5mm and 0.6mm tips are fine enough for the narrow apical third. The bend lets the instrument reach canals in molars, where a straight plugger runs into the opposing arch or the cheek.

Use the smaller end in the tightest canals and the other end where there is a little more room.

Choosing and Using a Plugger

Vertical compaction works best when the plugger is sized to the canal. Try the plugger in the canal before obturation to confirm it reaches the depth you need without binding on the walls, and mark it with a stop if you want to control the depth. A plugger that is too large will stop short, and one that is too small will not push the material against the walls.

Clean the tip between insertions so filling material does not stick to it, and check the tips for bending or wear after each case.

Most endodontic sets carry several plugger sizes, from fine apical tips to wide coronal ones, because compaction usually moves from small to large as the filling is built up toward the canal orifice. Keeping the full range on hand means the right size is always at the chair.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
