Clinical Use

The Band Pusher and Scaler is a dual-purpose orthodontic instrument for seating molar bands and cleaning up after placement. The band pusher end seats the band, and the scaler end removes excess cement or flash around the band.

Design and Handling

The pusher tip is rectangular with single direction horizontal serrations. Unlike cross-serrated pushers, the one-way lines give a firm, non-slip hold on the edge of the band without too much friction or damage to the band material under downward pressure.

The scaler end has a small, modified hook. The compact shape gets into tight posterior spaces to remove excess cement. Use the pusher end for seating, then turn the instrument to clean the margins.

Use and Care

Orthodontic hand instruments are used all day and handled with gloves that are wet from saliva, so a clean, secure grip matters. Wipe off bonding resin, cement and elastomeric debris before it hardens, and clean joints and serrations with a brush before the instrument goes into the ultrasonic bath and autoclave.

Check the tips for wear or bending at the start of each week, because a damaged tip can scratch brackets or tear elastics.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
