SurgiWorld – Band Pusher

Clinical Use

The Band Pusher is used to seat orthodontic bands. The serrated tip is designed to stop it slipping off the band edge, and it gives the leverage needed for a tight, anatomical fit.

Design and Handling

A band that is not fully seated leaves a gap at the margin where cement washes out and plaque collects. The serrated tip bites on the edge of the band so the pressure goes down along the tooth instead of sliding sideways.

Place the tip on the band edge, push toward the gingiva with firm, even pressure, and work around the band until it sits at the correct height.

Seating Bands Well

A well seated band starts with the right fit. Try the band on, press it down with the pusher or bite stick until it sits at the correct height on the crown, and check that it clears the opposing tooth in occlusion before it is cemented. Excess cement should be cleaned from the margins before it sets, because it traps plaque and irritates the gingiva.

Keep the instrument tip clean between bands. Cement or resin on a pusher makes it slip and can scratch the band surface.

Keep a spare pusher or bite stick available for the day, because instruments are sterilized between patients and a banding appointment can use several bands in one visit.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
