Clinical Use

The Band Seating Pliers use the patient's own biting force to seat molar bands. The serrated tip prevents slipping, which gives a tight, accurate fit.

Design and Handling

The patient bites down on the pliers' tip, so the seating force comes from the jaw and is spread across the occlusal surface of the band. This is more comfortable for the patient than pressing the band down from the side.

Check that the tip sits on the band edge and not on the tooth, and have the patient bite slowly until the band is fully seated.

Seating Bands Well

A well seated band starts with the right fit. Try the band on, press it down with the pusher or bite stick until it sits at the correct height on the crown, and check that it clears the opposing tooth in occlusion before it is cemented. Excess cement should be cleaned from the margins before it sets, because it traps plaque and irritates the gingiva.

Keep the instrument tip clean between bands. Cement or resin on a pusher makes it slip and can scratch the band surface.

Keep a spare pusher or bite stick available for the day, because instruments are sterilized between patients and a banding appointment can use several bands in one visit.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
