Clinical Use

The Bracket Removing Pliers have sharp tips that slide under the bracket base and peel it away from the enamel. They are used to remove bonded brackets at the end of treatment or to replace one that is misplaced.

Design and Handling

The tips slide easily under the bracket base, so the bracket releases quickly and cleanly with a controlled peeling movement. A quick, clean release is more comfortable for the patient than slow pressure on the tooth.

Place the tips at the bracket base, squeeze gently and support the tooth with your other hand. Keep the force along the base of the bracket.

Care and Handling

Orthodontic pliers should be used only for the job they are made for. Check that the tips meet evenly before each use, and do not use these pliers to cut wire, which will damage the working surfaces. Keep the box joint free of resin and cement, and put a drop of instrument lubricant on it before sterilization so the pliers keep opening and closing smoothly.

Run a cloth or brush over serrations and grooves during cleaning, because debris trapped there reduces grip.

Pliers stored loose in a drawer can knock their tips out of alignment. Keep them in a cassette or tray so the beaks are protected between uses and the instrument is ready when the next patient sits down.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
