SurgiWorld – General Contouring Pliers

Clinical Use

The General Contouring Pliers are used for archwire shaping. The smooth-surfaced beaks form gentle curves in large wires without marking or scratching the metal.

Design and Handling

Marks and nicks on an archwire can weaken it and increase friction in the bracket slot. Smooth beaks let you bend a large wire into an arch or add a gentle contour without leaving a mark.

Hold the wire near the section you want to curve, roll it over the beak and check the shape against the arch form.

Care and Handling

Orthodontic pliers should be used only for the job they are made for. Check that the tips meet evenly before each use, and do not use these pliers to cut wire, which will damage the working surfaces. Keep the box joint free of resin and cement, and put a drop of instrument lubricant on it before sterilization so the pliers keep opening and closing smoothly.

Run a cloth or brush over serrations and grooves during cleaning, because debris trapped there reduces grip.

Pliers stored loose in a drawer can knock their tips out of alignment. Keep them in a cassette or tray so the beaks are protected between uses and the instrument is ready when the next patient sits down.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
