Clinical Use

The Ligature Director 0.18", single end, is sized at 0.18 inch for fine wire control. It is used to guide ligature wire and seat elastic ties.

Design and Handling

The single-end design gives a light, balanced feel in the hand, which helps you guide a wire with small, controlled movements. The 0.18 inch size suits work on small areas where a thicker tip would be clumsy.

Because there is only one working end, the handle is simple to hold and the tip is easy to keep clean.

Working With Ligatures

Ligature wires and elastic ties are finished by making sure nothing sharp is left in the mouth. Tuck wire tails under the arch, away from the cheeks and lips, and run the tip along the bracket to check that elastic ties are fully seated under the wings.

Clean the working tip after every patient. Dried elastomeric debris or cement on the tip makes it harder to feel the wire and bracket.

A ligature director is a small instrument, but it is used at nearly every adjustment visit. Keeping a few on the tray means one is always clean and ready while the others are being reprocessed, so chair time is not lost waiting for an instrument.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
