Clinical Use

The Mathieu Narrow Tip Pliers, 14cm, are used to hold and place small elastic auxiliaries in orthodontic treatment. The slim serrated tip suits small elastics and ligatures that a wider tip would crush or hide.

Design and Handling

The locking mechanism and narrow profile give high visibility and control when you stretch and place a ligature over a bracket, especially in crowded or hard-to-reach areas. The lock holds the elastic without you having to keep squeezing, which makes placement faster.

Compared with the wide tip version, the slim tip reaches posterior brackets and tight spaces between teeth more easily.

Care and Handling

Orthodontic pliers should be used only for the job they are made for. Check that the tips meet evenly before each use, and do not use these pliers to cut wire, which will damage the working surfaces. Keep the box joint free of resin and cement, and put a drop of instrument lubricant on it before sterilization so the pliers keep opening and closing smoothly.

Run a cloth or brush over serrations and grooves during cleaning, because debris trapped there reduces grip.

Pliers stored loose in a drawer can knock their tips out of alignment. Keep them in a cassette or tray so the beaks are protected between uses and the instrument is ready when the next patient sits down.

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
