Clinical Use

The Orthodontic Picker and Ligature Director is a double-ended hand instrument for daily orthodontic adjustments. One end is a sharp picker for removing elastic ligatures and debris, and the other is a ligature director for tucking wire tails and seating ties.

Design and Handling

Having both functions on one handle cuts down the number of tools on the tray and speeds up bonding and adjustment appointments. The balanced double-ended design lets you remove old ligatures with the picker, then turn the instrument to tuck the new wire ends under the arch.

Use the picker with light pressure so it lifts the ligature without scratching the bracket or the enamel.

Use and Care

Orthodontic hand instruments are used all day and handled with gloves that are wet from saliva, so a clean, secure grip matters. Wipe off bonding resin, cement and elastomeric debris before it hardens, and clean joints and serrations with a brush before the instrument goes into the ultrasonic bath and autoclave.

Check the tips for wear or bending at the start of each week, because a damaged tip can scratch brackets or tear elastics.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
