Clinical Use

The Posterior Band Remover is a lever-action tool for removing molar bands. The padded tip rests on the occlusal surface while the hook catches the band edge, so the band can be lifted off with little effort.

Design and Handling

The padded tip protects the biting surface and spreads the force. The hook engages the cervical edge of the band, and squeezing the handle lifts the band away from the tooth.

Place the pad on the occlusal surface and engage the hook under the band margin, then squeeze gradually. Clean any remaining cement from the tooth afterward.

Care and Handling

Orthodontic pliers should be used only for the job they are made for. Check that the tips meet evenly before each use, and do not use these pliers to cut wire, which will damage the working surfaces. Keep the box joint free of resin and cement, and put a drop of instrument lubricant on it before sterilization so the pliers keep opening and closing smoothly.

Run a cloth or brush over serrations and grooves during cleaning, because debris trapped there reduces grip.

Pliers stored loose in a drawer can knock their tips out of alignment. Keep them in a cassette or tray so the beaks are protected between uses and the instrument is ready when the next patient sits down.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
