Clinical Use

The Straight Apical Plugger, 0.5mm Ultra Fine, is a flat-ended plugger for vertical compaction of filling materials. It is made for the apical third of narrow canals, where a solid seal matters most.

Design and Handling

The ultra-fine 0.5mm tip can reach the narrowest part of the canal, so the filling material is compacted against the walls near the apex. A good apical seal helps prevent leakage.

Try the plugger in the canal before use, and check that it moves freely to the depth you need.

Choosing and Using a Plugger

Vertical compaction works best when the plugger is sized to the canal. Try the plugger in the canal before obturation to confirm it reaches the depth you need without binding on the walls, and mark it with a stop if you want to control the depth. A plugger that is too large will stop short, and one that is too small will not push the material against the walls.

Clean the tip between insertions so filling material does not stick to it, and check the tips for bending or wear after each case.

Most endodontic sets carry several plugger sizes, from fine apical tips to wide coronal ones, because compaction usually moves from small to large as the filling is built up toward the canal orifice. Keeping the full range on hand means the right size is always at the chair.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
