Clinical Use

The Straight Apical Plugger, 1.5mm, is a wide plugger for the coronal and middle thirds of the canal. It gives dense compaction of filling materials in larger canal spaces.

Design and Handling

The 1.5mm tip is broad enough to push a good volume of material against the walls, and the straight shaft delivers the force along the canal axis.

Use it after smaller pluggers have worked the apical third, to finish compaction in the middle and upper parts.

Choosing and Using a Plugger

Vertical compaction works best when the plugger is sized to the canal. Try the plugger in the canal before obturation to confirm it reaches the depth you need without binding on the walls, and mark it with a stop if you want to control the depth. A plugger that is too large will stop short, and one that is too small will not push the material against the walls.

Clean the tip between insertions so filling material does not stick to it, and check the tips for bending or wear after each case.

Most endodontic sets carry several plugger sizes, from fine apical tips to wide coronal ones, because compaction usually moves from small to large as the filling is built up toward the canal orifice. Keeping the full range on hand means the right size is always at the chair.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
