Clinical Use

The Twirl-On Ligature Applicator is used to apply elastic ligatures. It streamlines placement and speeds up the ligating process, which helps during busy clinic days.

Design and Handling

The twirl-on action reduces hand fatigue compared with placing each elastic by hand, because the movement is smoother and uses less finger force. Over a full schedule of adjustment patients, that adds up.

Load the elastic, position it over the bracket and twirl it on, then check that it is seated under the wings.

Working With Ligatures

Ligature wires and elastic ties are finished by making sure nothing sharp is left in the mouth. Tuck wire tails under the arch, away from the cheeks and lips, and run the tip along the bracket to check that elastic ties are fully seated under the wings.

Clean the working tip after every patient. Dried elastomeric debris or cement on the tip makes it harder to feel the wire and bracket.

A ligature director is a small instrument, but it is used at nearly every adjustment visit. Keeping a few on the tray means one is always clean and ready while the others are being reprocessed, so chair time is not lost waiting for an instrument.

Material and Sterilization

Made from medical grade stainless steel. Autoclavable for repeated sterilization cycles. Clean and dry the instrument after each use, and check the working ends for wear or damage before it goes into the pouch.
