Product details

The twist dental elevator left handed completes the matched pair alongside the right-handed version, providing the opposite blade twist orientation for the approach angles that the right-handed instrument cannot cover effectively. Understanding why both are needed comes down to the geometry of the helical blade and how it generates force on the root.

A helically twisted blade generates its mechanical advantage in one rotational direction only. When the blade is positioned at the correct approach angle and the clinician applies a rotational stroke in the direction that follows the blade's helical pitch, the blade surface follows the convex curvature of the root face and generates a progressive lifting force as it moves apically through the PDL space. When the same blade is used from the opposite approach angle, the helical surface runs contrary to the root curvature, reducing contact efficiency and converting the intended lifting force into a lateral force that pushes against the socket wall rather than lifting the root.

For any given tooth, the PDL space has two primary approach sides: mesial and distal. On a tooth to the right of the midline, the right-handed blade is correctly oriented for the mesial approach and the left-handed blade is correctly oriented for the distal approach. On a tooth to the left of the midline, these relationships reverse. This means that across a full-arch extraction case or an extraction involving multiple teeth, the clinician alternates between the two instruments depending on which PDL surface is being accessed at each step. Neither instrument alone covers all approach angles for all teeth.

The full-arch extraction sequence with these two instruments involves inserting the correctly oriented blade into the PDL space at one aspect of the tooth, applying slight apical pressure with a gentle rotational stroke to sever the PDL fibres and begin coronal displacement of the root, then switching to the paired blade for the opposite aspect. Progressive PDL release at mesial and distal aspects, followed by buccal and palatal or lingual release with either blade depending on access angle, delivers the tooth to a state of full mobility before forceps are applied for final removal. The thin, sharp luxating blade profile minimises socket wall contact throughout, preserving the cortical bone for subsequent socket management or implant site preparation. Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, autoclavable at standard steam sterilization parameters.

Product Features

  • Twist dental elevator left handed helical blade twist runs opposite to the right-handed version, correctly orienting the PDL force vector for distal-right and mesial-left approach angles
  • Blade geometry engages the natural curvature of the root surface from the left-blade approach, maintaining the mechanical advantage that makes the twist design effective
  • Completing the matched pair: right and left-handed versions together cover the full PDL circumference of every tooth position in the arch
  • Thin, sharp luxating blade minimises socket wall contact and cortical bone displacement throughout the extraction sequence
  • Straight shank provides direct access and clear tip visibility across anterior and premolar regions
  • Using this instrument from the wrong approach angle reduces efficiency and converts lifting force to lateral socket wall pressure - always pair with the right-handed version for complete arch coverage
  • Medical-grade stainless steel, corrosion resistant, fully autoclavable
Instrument care and manufacturer warranty

Instrument cleaning, care & warranty

Protect reusable dental instruments with product-specific reprocessing guidance, and review manufacturing-defect coverage available on eligible SurgiWorld instruments.

Safe reprocessing guidance

Cleaning, sterilization & care

Check the manufacturer Instructions for Use for your exact item. Cleaning and sterilization requirements differ by device, material and intended use.
